Tuvis' Guide to a Dynamic Siggy.

    Greetings.

As some of you may have noticed, my signature and Scopfragger's signature, change itself now and then when you view a page we have posted on. That is indeed an automatic doing, and not "us" doing it. For some, who would want various pictures of their characters to show up, this would be the perfect thing. However; this may be a little complex for the slow. I'm not entire sure if this do belong in this section, so if a moderator feels it belongs elsewhere, feel free to move it.

What you need is a webhost that supports PHP4 or higher,GD enabled and that index.php is considered as an index file on the webhost.

Step to step how to do this is simple:

    1. Create a folder on your webhost. Make this folder the name of an image. So that when you view it in a browser, it becomes http://yoururl.com/~yourname/image.png/ for example.

    2. Upload all images you want to appear in your signature, to that folder. However, please keep them all as the same extension(jpg, gif, etc) as mixing extensions may make it to not work. So that your folder has like, image1.jpg, image2.jpg and image3.jpg within, par example.

    3. Download the following file, extract it to your desktop from the zip, and upload the file to the folder you put the images in. However, please do not alter the index.php file in any way.
    http://driftingdreams.ddns.ms/index.zip

    4. Your folder should now look something like(just an example, 3 image files and the file I told you to upload):

    /...
    image1.jpg
    image2.jpg
    image3.jpg
    index.php

    5. Now, if you have done everything as I've told, point your browser to the adress of the folder. Which, as exampled, would be: http://yoururl.com/~yourname/image.png/. Now, one of the images in your folder pops up. Each time the folder is viewed, a random image is shown.

    6. By naming the folder as an image, you can use it in your signature. Just use [ img ]http://yoururl.com/~yourname/image.png[ /img ] for it to show up(without the spaces between the ['s and ]'s of course, silly). Thats it!

If you need a demonstration of how it works in a signature, simply look at my signature, and refresh the page a few times, and you'll get how it works.

Any questions? Need help? Like my script? Comment here!

    7. Additionals:

Due to appearant popular demand, for a limited time I'm currently offering a hosting service for people so they can run their signatures, screenshots and the like. Contact me via PM asking for one and a PM will be returned with your folder and login information. Abuse of the service will however result in account termination. How to tell its abuse? If you host any images that would violate the ToS of the trickster online forums.

    Enjoy~

Photobucket doesn't seem to support this. I can't upload that index.php thingy. Which host site did you use, Tuvis?

Well in order to use this guide you must use a webhost which supports domain hosting not an image host =w= if you wish you can try zymic.com .

Interesting script. Though for the people who might have issues with this or just suffer from laziness there are always the random image generators available online. I may have to test this out during my boring week of death off from school.

Should not be a problem at all. Just remember to have all the images then as "gif" format in the folder. ^^
