Double-Digits! :D

Chapter 10 - Part 1

Ari turned over and realized it was morning. She still felt half-asleep, but managed to stand up. She rubbed her eyes and yawned loudly. Feeling more awake, Ari stepped outside and went off to search yet again. The city seemed duller than the previous day, but Ari didn’t really mind. She scanned the crowds and looked at everyone that past her, but Shadow was still nowhere to be found. Ari was starting to think that she should travel back to Blooming Cora, but unfortunately, she didn’t know the way. She kept wandering among the shops and crowds until she stumbled upon another gate. “Event Garden?”  Ari read aloud and stared at the sign. “It won’t hurt to look here, I guess.” She mumbled sadly and stepped into the garden.

Chapter 10 - Part 2

Marble columns decorated with red and white roses stood tall lining the clean and shiny floor. Normally, Ari would greatly enjoy the beautiful scenery, but she simply didn’t have the time. She passed a large building with a satellite on top and stopped at the wedding area. She kept her distance, but could see a happy buffalo and sheep couple standing at the altar surrounded by friends. Though she would never say it out loud, Ari was secretly a bit jealous of them. She decided that she had spent enough time watching and walked further down the path. An elegant teardrop shape covered in vines at the bottom of a flight of stairs caught Ari’s attention. “Stairway to Sorrow” was engraved in it. “I’ll look there too…” she said and climbed up the stairs.

Chapter 11 - Part 1

Half the day was gone. But at least Shadow knew Ari was near. He was now searching the emptier parts of Megalopolis. He headed towards the event garden and overheard something odd from two people passing by. “Did you hear that some noob bunny is up at the Stairway to Sorrow getting chased by a mob of monsters?” one of them laughed. “Man, low levels these days are so full of themselves.” The other one sighed. Shadow then became worried. “It couldn’t be her…” he whispered and ran into the garden.

Chapter 11 - Part 2

Ari ran quickly across the grass, running out of energy; the mob of angry monsters was close behind her. She kept running but knew she wouldn’t be able to much longer. She turned back in the direction of the stairs but tripped on a root sticking out of the ground. Ari fell onto the grass with a soft thud and desperately tried to scramble back to her feet. She put one foot on the ground but when she lifted herself up, she felt a sudden sharp pain in her other ankle. She let out a small yelp and squeezed her eyes shut; bracing herself for the pain she was about to feel from the mob. Seconds passed and nothing happened. Ari sheepishly opened one of her eyes to look. The crowd of angry monsters now lay defeated upon the cold marble ground. Ari turned and looked to the top of the stairs. From behind a marble column; stood Shadow.

Chapter 11 - Part 3

“Shadow!” Ari cried out loudly. Shadow calmly walked down the stairs over to Ari. “You’re okay…” he sighed with relief and smiled slightly. “Hey, why haven’t you gotten up yet?” he kneeled down next to her. Ari had forgotten all about her injury. “I twisted my ankle when I fell…” she clutched her ankle but didn’t look away from him. “I can heal that for you, but it’s safer to do that in the garden, do you think you can walk a little?” he asked in a worried tone while trying to inspect her wound. Ari tried once again to stand, but the pain forced her to fall back down. “I’ll take that as a ‘no’.” he grabbed her hand and helped her to stand on one foot. “How am I supposed to get up and down stairs like this? I’ll fall over even with your help.” She stared at him, waiting for an answer. Shadow suddenly smirked playfully and lifted Ari off her foot and into his arms. “This works.” He laughed softly. Ari’s cheeks turned a pinkish-red as she looked up at him. Shadow effortlessly walked back up the stairs slowly. Ari immediately noticed how differently Shadow carried her; it was almost the opposite of the way Zero had.  Zero felt slightly cold and robotic. The way she was being carried now felt more like a hug. Now at ease, Ari sighed and mindlessly snuggled herself closer to Shadow’s chest. Shadow paused for a moment and looked down at her. “You know, I’m really glad that you’re alright…” he said so low that it almost sounded like a whisper. He held her tighter and started walking again.

Chapter 12 - Part 1

Zero slinked quietly through the dark tunnel slowly. He opened the door to the lab and saw Mika silently glaring at him with his blood-red eyes. “001, where did that bunny go?” he asked, emotionless. Zero said nothing. “001. Tell me. Now.” His voice became angry. “I don’t know.” Zero said flatly. “Don’t lie to me!” he snarled. Zero tensed up and gritted his teeth. “You know what happens when you lie to me.” He growled and put his hand on his gun. “I let her go.” Zero admitted in a meek whisper. Mika paused for a moment and stood motionless. “Why?” he controlled the anger in his voice. “Because I like her.” He said with a firm voice. Mika stayed silent for a long time. He took his hand off his gun and stared at Zero with a cold expression. “Well, that’s something I never thought I’d hear from you. He said in a monotone. The usual menacing grin Mika always had slowly spread onto his face. “It’s a shame she won’t be alive much longer.” He chuckled. Zero flinched. “What do you mean by that?” he growled. “Remember when I told you my last 20 or so experiments failed?” he locked his gaze on Zero. “Yeah…” A sudden feeling of fear suddenly engulfed him. “Well you see, I lied.”

Chapter 12 - Part 2

Zero stood frozen from shock as he stared at the madman. “You don’t mean…” he whispered. “That’s right 001. I’ve completed my army.” He turned and lightly pressed a small green button. The wall behind Mika was actually a door. It slowly slid away revealing a long endless-looking hallway. Lined on the walls were many people inside tubes suspended in a glowing green liquid. “How are there so many?” Zero asked quietly. “Clones of course.” Mika was still grinning widely. “Each one of them are as strong as you, 001, if not stronger!” his voice quivered with excitement. “And I haven’t even told you the best part yet.” He laughed softly. “They obey me without question. Unlike you, they have no will or mind of their own.” Zero felt sick after hearing those words. He felt unbearably guilty. “I did this to them…” he fell to his knees and clutched both sides of his head. “This is barely catching up to you now 001? I thought you had come to terms with what you’ve done a long time ago.” Mika looked down at him with a confused look. “These people…they don’t have an identity anymore, just like me,” Zero whispered. “But now they don’t even have a mind. Because of me…they’re not even human anymore!” Zero shouted and clutched his head tighter. Mika stayed silent for a short minute. “You say that like you’re a human. You know you’re not.” Mika said and took a small step forward. Zero snarled and stared at the ground below him. “Have you forgotten? You’re anything but human. When you lost your memory and when I gave you power, from those moments on, you lost what defined you as a human.” Mika said sternly. Zero simply kept staring at the ground.
