Tuvis:~ A worthy note ~
A note is, tempering does not affect your compounded stats. It only affects the base stat of the item. However! A trick to it is, if you temper an item before refining it, you get a better refine value. Because refining is based on the stat amount your item has. So if you gain more AP on your sword than it originally had, and refine it, the sword gets better damage from refines than it would before!
So i got a question...tempering an item is from 30% up or down the item's original stats right? So lets imagine i have a 10 AC gun. I compound it to 20 AC. Now if i temper my gun before i compound it, it will be from 7-13 AC right? 30% up, 30% down. So..what if i temper it to 20 AC, will it be the 30% of the stats right now (14-26AC) or will it still be 17-23AC since 30% of the base stat was 3 up or 3 down (30% of 10=3)
Ok, that was really confusing, but I think I understand your question--after reading it 4 times...
Tempering looks at your base stats. You know how compounded stats are in parentheses? Well, when you temper, the number it displays is relative to the total value of the stat. But the range depends on the base stat.
So if you have a gun with 10 AC, the temper range would be 7-13, as you said. That's a range of 6. It will always be that range of 6. No matter if you compound it or not. If you add 5 AC, it'll show the range as 12-17, which is still a range of 6. If you add 10 AC, it'll show the range as 17-23, still a range of 6.
As Tuvis said, which you bolded and underlined! Compounding and Tempering have no effect on each other.
Compounding value depends on what you compound with. Tempering value depends on the base stat. Refining is also based on the base stat, as well as the type of ore. That's why Tuvis said you get better refine results after tempering. Tempering can raise the base stat value. Raising the base stat value would increase how much you gain per refine.
