It's a Quest.
And it doesn't matter what type of character you are, you're able to ''choose'' more or less what Guardian you want by raising the egg to hatch into what you want. If you want the Power Guardian it's as simple as focusing more on the Power Guardian requirements for example. You aren't forced to have a certain type of Guardian.

That's not even known for a fact yet.
The Charm guardian looks a lot like a male, just remove the ponytail. (Zero from Megaman has a ponytail) Males have ponytails as well though, but if you take it away you see that it looks more male than female. It's all on how you look at it.

It'll be a while before I get one by then.

I mean seriously. The Guardian system isn't gonna change the rate of getting a Harkon so why should its price go up so much?

Demand. The demand will be high at first thus the prices will be high as well. In time it'll lower back to normal, more or less.
No, of course the guardian system is unlikely to change the rate with which you can drill up a Harkon from one of the few fields where they are available, but like the bloody rune it's a pain to do it that way. And of course, if you already did both mine quests for Harkon and sold the extra, then you don't have that to fall back on. So some enterprising people are taking advantage of their bank alts and selling the Harkon from those characters that is unneeded knowing that most people prefer to get to the event straight away rather than wait days to drill up a Harkon on their own or to see someone selling one.
Admittedly though I haven't really noticed a price increase on Fantasia because there just doesn't seem to be any extra Harkon making the rounds, although I've heard that on Jewellia there is.

I saw a Harkon for 20mil at Fantasia the other day. Not sure if it sold or not. Didn't go back to check up on it.
It usually takes me around 3 days to get the items for Harkon quests. Lucky for me I haven't done it on 2 characters yet.
