Swamp Drills are niiiiiiiiiiice. But they're a pain to get since only yellow drills and myshop drills are designed for Swamp Dungeon.

I was looking for this thread but then I got distracted. Thanks Lloyd for bumping it.

Anyway, what I wanted to add if I haven't done so already is that when using the two detection skills -- Basic Detection and Item Detector -- you need to click on the right-half of the locator circle. If you click on the left-half and there isn't an overlapping item to the left, you will actually miss the location. It used to not be this way back in Beta, but I've noticed in REVO that you have to click off to the right. You can't even click on the center, as that will translate to clicking on the left.

xD No problem! I pretty much tend to post my late reply on posts I've read some days ago anyway.

And I'm actually waiting for this thread to get pinned, too!

@Lloyd, yeah, I suggested it get pinned when they pinned my avatar guide...kinda found it funny they didn't.  XD

[edit] LMAO!!  I blame Loki for this sticky...he likes making me a liar!  XD  (If it wasn't Loki, and the GM responsible is reading this, <3U~!)

    Not really.  O__o  What's complicated?

Step 1- Use the drill that matches the type and depth of the area you want to drill

Step 2- Drill where you're more likely to find stuff

    How's that complicated?

o_o I knew it! I was drilling back around Coral Beach and thought of the "items land on other items" thing. It worked usually. Thank you for that confirmation.

I agree with Damsel whole-heartedly and have fully tested all her theory’s on drilling and found them to be true.  (I have a Lion on Pearl and I literally did nothing but eat, sleep and drill for the entire potpourri event…since I happened to be temporarily out of work at the time….)

I wish to add one more reason why there tend to be more items near: portals, map edges, and behind landscape objects….

People who are not sense types, or who haven’t heard about these tips and tricks tend to drill in areas of the map that are not map edges, or behind objects that would hinder their vision.  They also are not going to stop right after going through a portal and go back and drill right beside or even under it….  Instead they will drill randomly in an open convent area,… so when they do find things they find them in those areas.

That is one reason why there are usually fewer items in open areas, and more in inconvenient  areas…  Unless a sense type or drill-wise person has come through and cleaned an area out you have a better chance of finding things in inconvenient places.

Also people tend to drill less at the very bottom of the map because few people think about closing the chat box and drilling at the screen bottom like a mad freak…..

Since my lion is Lvl 91 and I have not leveled my Basic Detect beyond seeing 65 there are areas I have drilled in where I can’t see, but by knowing these tricks and keeping my DA at 90, with luck I have no problem drilling even then…

One thing I found odd yesterday was that I drilled in vamp dungeon for several hours yesterday and found 3 portable ports and one harkon there right as my Sixth sense ended as I drilled(4 separate occasions)…. I have no clue if this is just odd IRL luck or not…

Good luck with those portraits...I've NEVER found any.  Tuvis said he drilled for 3 hours and found 1.
