n1nj4bl4st3r:

This is to all people complaining about not being able to get a match. I overslept in the afternoon and lost the beginning of the tournament. It was running already for an hour, but I was still able to join rooms and get some points. I only joined 3 rooms, but I had to wait no more than 10 minutes (maybe even no more than 5 mins) each time I joined them.

Regarding the locked rooms, sometimes if a GM dc'ed from the room, he or she would make the room again and call the players back for a rematch. They could also be in a break or something. Four hours of matches can be tiring at times.

Its a shame that not everyone got a chance to play, but don't blame GM's for that. They are doing their best. There is no perfect way to do a tournament, which is why every new tourny is different from the past ones.

This is more or less correct, but I'd like to add to it to dispel some of the rumors that have been floating around in the past 10 pages of this thread (why couldn't we have this much discussion *before* the tournament?).

First of all, I would like to apologize to anyone who has been patiently waiting for an official response about the tournament.  As I'm sure you can imagine, every game-capable GM was in game today on Gardosen hosting rooms as often as possible.  We were down to a literally skeleton crew of support staff not involved in the tournament keeping the rest of the service (not to mention our other two games!) running smoothly.  This tournament has taken more resources than any in the past, and honestly we are very pleased with the results thusfar.  So unfortunately, this does mean that this response is coming later than I would normally like it to, but if I paused my room any more than absolutely necessary, I have a feeling it would only feed these concerns.

NO GAME MASTER REQUIRED A PASSWORD TO ENTER THEIR ROOM

I'm leaving that on its own line, for the emphasis to sink in.  If you ever saw a lock on an official tournament room, the password was an unintelligible random string of characters, and the purpose was to literally lock the room so that new players couldn't join.  With the speed of players clicking trying to join rooms, it's simply not feasible to kick out players who enter a room that's supposed to be temporarily closed, so we must lock the rooms to maintain order.

Some of you may have seen rooms without a GC Club mark; these were not official GM rooms, and were temporarily created when a Game Master incorrectly left a room (usually due to a technical error such as client crash) and the players left in the room opened it up to others.  To regain control of these rooms, we had to ask the host to lock the room so that we could remove players from it and close the room.  Please understand that this was necessary in order to ensure that any room you join will be an officially sanctioned room.  We applied the room creation restriction to that server to make it as easy as possible to join by using the "Quick Join" option.

As far as WHY some of the sanctioned rooms were locked, there were a few reasons.  Most commonly, a technical glitch occurred in a prior match that had to be resolved with the existing competitors.  If a player disconnects, typically we must record that as a loss and move on to the next match.  If a Game Master disconnects however, we will make every endeavor to equitably resolve the issue with the remaining competitors who--by no fault of their own--were not able to complete the match as scheduled.  Unfortunately there were a few cases brought to my attention where this goal was not achieved, and we apologize to any competitors who were so adversely affected.  We hope that you will attempt to improve your record with tomorrow's Qualifier round from 4~8 PM PDT.

Another issue we faced was necessary but temporary pauses in the sanctioned rooms, for example to facilitate breaks to get more water, or to use the restroom.  Although not all players played for four hours straight (some did!), our Game Masters were occupied for four hours in game.  We understand that from the player's perspective, they see a room in the list that they cannot enter and this can cause all manner of thoughts to enter your head, but a lock icon means that the room is NOT open for play, and focus should be directed on other tournament rooms which were constantly opening up throughout the day.

Under NO circumstances whatsoever was preferential treatment in entry procedures given to ANY player.  We did not provide the passwords to "GM buddies" nor did we invite anyone who was not already a competitor of that room (for example, re-inviting the King if the GM disconnected).

I understand that it is difficult for some to access these rooms.  At peak, we had 12 sanctioned rooms running, opening up on average every 3 minutes or less.  The longest a match is permitted to run is 7 and a half minutes, so the focus is definitely on moving those rooms as quickly as possible.  This tournament truly is open to everyone, and we hope that everyone who is honestly interested in playing gets their fair chance to join and hold a room.  Now, if you enter a room and lose, the onus is entirely upon you to attempt to return and fare better next time!

At this point in time we do not have an operationally feasible and equitable method of guaranteeing that individual players will be provided an opportunity to participate, so we must insist that the best way to get in this tournament is to use the "Quick Join" feature in Gardosen's Free Class tomorrow from 4~8 PM PDT.  We have a very large competitive community in this game and we are thankful for that, it is our hope that this tournament will allow more players to participate than any tournament previous.  We are currently at 162 unique players and counting, I'd like to see if we can't double that number before tomorrow ends.

Above all else, thank you for your patience as we explore this new format of entry, we are very pleased with the results so far and we are confident that--with some adjustments--this can be a mutually beneficial format for everyone going forward.

I have to say I was pretty disappointed about the tournament. I live in Finland and the clock was 2 am in here when the tournament started. Well when I was tired and waiting to get in the room. Then i realised that rooms were always full and not in waiting state ever. Then i realised that its the distance lag, that people in USA had better chance to get in the room because they live nearer the servers/hosts. So then i just gave up and went to sleep and i wasted 3 hours from my sleeping time in waiting for nothing... I quess these tournaments aren't really "open for everyone" because european players less chance to get in room.

And its not my internet that wasn't fast enough. i have 24/2 speed atm.

And im sorry that my english isn't perfect. As you may know we speak finnish in finland so please don't whine about my english skills.

No, you just kinda have to be quick because since there are a lot of people trying to get into a room, as soon as a room was opened, someone would have entered in less than a second. As Loki said, the best way is prolly spam clicking "Quick Join". :3

I hope I have better luck entering a room today. ;~;

NAGC. Not NA&FGC. You're permitted to play, but everything will be directed to North Americans

I thought quick join would give me an error message so I did it the harder way and clicked where rooms might appear.

I was probably over 3 hours and 30 minutes of clicking, even though i did go out to walk a few seconds, look around, get food, and browse the forums.

Other players got several rooms, I got a single match which I lost.

I plan to get in this tournament, but it is going to be hard.

I hope if I do I can get up against some of the weaker players to get through.

ut as I told Zhon, I think you gms should do a check for bots encase someone used a bot to get into the rooms.

You guys should know how sensitive I am to injustice by now!!

I managed to get in a room finally, only to see the title getting changed to lLGDlSora and myself getting kicked.

Explain.

Quickly.

If he lagged out and was king of the room, then the other player should have been expelled not me, since I was in the first slot therefore I joined first! :/

Ari is seeing preferential treatment, and she doesn't like it >_>

I also just found out, the people who were kings in their rooms yesterday were invited to the rooms today.

I have to say, that is a very faulty decision on your part GMs... Its like, giving them another ipod, most likely they won't lose! Essentially the best players are each camping a room and hoarding points.

It would have been much more interesting to not give them the rooms the second day, and let them randomly join rooms on their own. So they'l get to fight each other and reduce each other's ratings xD

Also, some of them, so i've heard. Are not that good, and just purposely aiming for a tie if they see they might lose, just to keep the room.

Something to think about if you ever do this again.

Just to clarify my point better, those of us that could not be there the first day... Got pretty much well, I won't say the word. But you get it.

Because, if we were there the first day, we might have been able to hold a room for a while. Now, we can't take any rooms because the best players already have them.

So the result is, you have some not-so-great players with high rating because they were here yesterday and held rooms for a while.

In essence for those who could not show for the first day due to constraints of time/work/etc, they get the bad end of the deal, and no chance to catch up. It would have been alot more fair to start the 2nd day fresh, with everyone having to land in the rooms on their own, including the Kings from the previous day.

The iPod is only given to the King of the room at the end of the day on THURSDAY.  No iPods were awarded yesterday.  Therefore, the Kings who held their rooms at the end of the day were afforded the opportunity to reclaim their rooms today, as they did not lose.  They were only given 5 minutes to do so, and not all reclaimed their rooms; those ones were opened up to everyone.

I understand that it seems more difficult to come in on the second day, but actually it is more beneficial to the player to do so.  The room kings will all have more points to start with (hopefully), so early wins on the second day will be worth a lot more.  Then, if you kick a King out of their room, they might try to come back and end up giving out more points.  Plus, otherwise good players who lost a lot on the first day have lower ratings, which means it takes less rating to qualify into the playoffs.  Right now, the 24th place player has 1541 rating.  Against a good player, that's 2 3-0 wins.  Against decent players, or with less than a 3-0 win, it might take 4 wins to reach that point.

There are upsides and downsides to having this qualifier spread out over 2 days instead of 8 contiguous hours, but we hope that by having that break we can get more players in who otherwise may have had a problem making it on one day.

Overall, if you're a strong player, you can qualify on one day alone.  For example, JRTSeven hasn't shown up at all today but he's still holding 6th place.

That be my point, JRTSeven is good, but he will lose against those currently holding most rooms. So, in essence, he hoarded alot of points on day one before one of the "champs" took his room from him, and now he's not going to play anymore so he won't lose those points. He's got a guranteed participation in the playoffs!

But if the ipods are only granted on day 2, then yeah ok, I guess thats fine, heh. I thought they were given on both days, but Ntreev isn't THAT generous eh? ;)

Currently I think whoever said hard work will always help out is a complete idiot.

I worked hard and I probably ended up losing every single point I had.

Is that why Jrt played all night?
the fact that they are even giving 12 Ipods away a Ps3,and an Xbox360 is Generous enough.

you people...so selfish

Just wondering, tomorrow, for those going to the play-off's, do we have to be there exactly at 4 p.m. or can we just come before our match starts?

Lady fingers. They taste just like lady fingers.
