Welcome, Knights! This is the place to be if you want to ask questions or post feedback regarding our tenth tournament, "Chase the Ace".Please do not ask any questions that have already been answered in official posts already, we want to keep this thread "clean" for relevant discussion of the tournament. For that same reason, we kindly ask that there be no off-topic chat on this thread. Anything not related to the tournament is considered off-topic. =)What we would like to see here, in addition to your questions, are suggestions about how to improve this tournament for future events. If you think there is a better format we should be using, let's hear it. If you disagree with the method of entry, we're open to suggestions. To clarify the line on "exploits" in terms that the players have requested in the past: Auto Shot is not okay, grabs are okay, steps are okay, Dark Assassin's "air otto" is not considered an auto shot since it cuts off at 5 hits; any more would make it unauthorized. Infinite combos which do not terminate at 5 hits (lire otto, for example) will be disqualified if they exceed 5 hits. Combos which rely on a finite number of MP bars to execute are not infinite combos, and are therefore authorized (Ex. Big Shot x3 + Grab).
From Ryugen
I've never participated in an offical tourney before because I couldn't make it, didn't know about it, or didn't feel like I'd stand a chance.
So I figure now is a good chance.
I read all the posts regarding this tournament, since I don't want to get disqualified of course, but I do have one question that didn't seem to get answered.
Are we allowed to switch characters between matches? Say, you're fighting an Elesis with Ronan and you win and stay in the room. Then an Arme enters. Would you be allowed to switch to an Amy or something, or are you bound to the character that you entered and won with to get that King of the Hill standing?
I couldn't find this either, and I looked, I swear I did. Are there any skills that are nulled from the tourney? Big no-no's? Of course otto and things like that, but I'm talking more...well...sketchy skills.
If these are obvious things, or things you're said, please forgive me. I just want to be sure I don'tdo anything wrong in my first Ntreev hosted tourney.
I thought you said that skill trees wouldnt be allowed in tournaments? o-o
Yet, in the official rules thread, it doesn't mention a restriction on skill trees, it says "no character, equipment or item restrictions."
And wow, how did you guys get approval for such big-ticket prizes? :O
Oops, more questions......
-Lets say if a person were to actively participate in wednesday's qualifiers (and earn enough points for a position as one of the 24), but did not fight in thursdays qualifiers, would he still get into the final 24?
-will those that remain as the King of the Hill at the end of wednesday's round be invited into the rooms as kings for the second day of qualifiers, or will they have to fight to get into a room like on the first day?
-isnt it risky messing with the fast match settings for just one server? isnt it possible that this would affect other servers or pvp channels?
Mysiaca:
First off, Hi and welcome to your first tourney... and you're absolutely right about the fact that this would be an awesome tourney to start out with. A player's chance to actually "get in" on this tourney are far greater then any we've done before.
Please don't shy away from a question, that's why this thread is here. So, first question...
1. Can you switch characters between matches? - hells yes. Of course, all players must observe the time frames in which the GM's must facilitate and ref the matches. This is a very fast paced match system, and we need to haul to get as many games moving as possible. So switch gear and characters while you can.
2. Are there any skills that are nulled from the tourney? - I'm not too sure what you mean by sketchy skills.
I guess it all depends on what you call a "skill" some players call the "otto" a skill, but we call it... shenanigans. There are no skills, which function as they're intended, that we'd eliminate from the tournament. If you want to Fatal "boOm" Headshot, then by all means... DoO EeT! Evil attack, HA! That's a spicy meatball!... I implore all players to "use em, if you got em", but that doesn't mean that we take the sploits' (game exploitation) lightly. That goes the same for any violation of the Terms of Use Agreement, or players that operate beyond the call of a GM reffing a match. If you have any doubts, or you have to ask... the golden rule is, don't do it. Meanwhile, if you have any questions before the tourney, ask here... ask now.
I hope that answers your questions Mysiaca. GL on the tourney!!
shadeofred:
1. Man, as far as the Skill Trees (Stees haha) are concerned, we've heard all kindsa of jibba' jabba based on what to allow, what not to allow and other such nonsensical things. That goes for GM thought, player feedback, looking at what's worked with other tourneys, and what hasn't. What we've come to agree on is one thing in general... we've been doing this for a year now, and we needed something special. Prizes (PS3, XBox 360, iPods, Points, Champ Gear, Gacha Coins... and more), lots of players getting the chance to drop the hammer and dirty up their knuckles with some frantic chop-busting privilage (gettin' evil), and a new way to gage how we rank the players in the tourney... an ELO system rooted on the concept of "strength of opponent". (AsK Loki about ELO detales, hees gud at Math). In the end, the Stees are goin in...
2. If some PvP BEAST somehow earns enough points to get into the Finals with the points on the first day (Wednesday), that player would totally get entered into the finals (on a red carpet, drinkin' sunny-d from the skulls of his enemies).
3. Those who "remain/End" as King of the Hill on Wednesday will receive an invite from the GM that ended the match on Wednesday (or any GM for that matter), However, if that player does not respond to the message within two minutes of the start time (Thursday 4:02 PM) then the room will be started without them. Don't fret though, if you miss the call, just get back in line.
It wouldn't be a king of the hill tourney if we yank the hill out from under them.
4. Will "Messing" with the Fast Match Settings mess with the other servers... Not at all, we slip in like santa on xmas, and we (the GMs' and the developers) will be conducting a FULL round of testing prior to the implimentation of the new game options. We'll keep our eyes on the other servers too, just in case.
and that's... the bottom line, why?
cuz stone cold says so.
CAN YOU SMELL...
WHAT THE MOSHUP...
just stepped in..
Happy anniversary PvP fanatics, don't spend money on a seat for this event, when all you need.... is the edge!
Ok... I'll stop now.
Well, i'll give this tournament my best! (but I'll be busy packing for moving into dorms, and an appointment I have to be at on thursday, so Its pretty certain I wont have enough points to qualify. ^_^;)
mostly I just want the bragging rights if I do make it to the final 24~
If you play your cards right... the ELO system may play out in your favor.
Basically, smash nubs fast (get minimum points and bounce em' out quick because they won't offer you many points once you get further up the food chain) and then go head-hunting for stronger opponents (they give mo' betta points).
If you lose a match, no biggy... just get your can in another room, quick-style. Try to go for the kills asap, the longer you take, the fewer fights you'll get.
I know the point system is rough at first, but It's not rocket surgery.
The giant killers will go far in this tourney.
Thank you for the quick response. ;o
By sketchy skills I meant skills that are highly debated as being over-powered, like Athena. But if headshot is allowed, Athena probably is too. *yikes X.x*
While reading your last comment though, another question did pop into my mind.
Let's say you're a horrible PvPer. Really bad, and you lose almost all the matches in these rooms. Are you allowed to re-enter the rooms? Or once you've played all the rooms, do you have to wait until the next day and hope you got mysteriously better overnight?
Sweet.
Visit my Grand Chase Blog!
actually ntreev did a good job of balancing the skill tree.. so its really not a big deal...
i've seen a lot of lires and mages with ST got beaten by ronans and ryans...
this could be really cool
i might come back for this one...
Speechless for the prizes.
Speaking of the prizes... If the 1st/2nd-place winner has both systems, or does not want a System, is it possible to have said system substituted by an equivalent amount of Cash Points? o.o (Let the GMs keep the system in the break room. )

Moshy always makes me laugh.
This tournament looks pretty in tents, it's been a while since I went camping.
Okay, nevermind, I'm horrible at that stuff Carrying on.....
I'm personally a little upset to see that skill trees are allowed, not for my own sake now that Arme has hers, but for every other character that doesn't. Well, I guess if they win, just proves how amazingly awesome they are. Either way, I look forward to this. High level players (Arme's) have quite a bit of trouble even finding games to play in the first place, so even if I don't make it into the playoffs (hah) at least I'll have fun with all the matches I get to play
Great setup, great prizes, good luck and hope it all runs smooth

By Otto not being allows you of course mean the glitch, Vz Otto correct?
So Assassin's Otto is not considered cause it ends after 5 hits.
Now my concern is with Wolf, Wolf transformation is dependent on it's "lock," so if I get someone caught in the jump attack I would have to let them escape after 5 hits or be disqualified right? As long as I don't exploit an "infinite combo" I should be fine correct? I have asked GMs about Wolf, but I have never gotten answered, one GM told me once that yes, wolf was allowed to use it's "lock" as it is not "infinite" per say as if wolf times out you can't do it anymore. Can someone please clarify me the stance of the GMs on wolf please?
