Again, I've noticed a severe drop in melee combatant skills lately. Their offensive skills are fine, but they're missing so many of the defensive basics that it leaves them open to so many attacks. Here's some defense basics designed for melee characters (of course, some of them Lire and Arme can use too).

Jump Attack

  • Due to it's attack duration (for Swordsman and Spell Knight) or attack range (for Spearman and Dragon Knight), this attack is used to fend off charging opponents. Even if you are hit once with this technique, you will fly back instantly, not allowing you to flinch when hit.
  • Advanced Technique - Simply jump forward while performing this to be on the offensive, but will put you in risk of a shorter hit range. Performing a jump backwards will mean your sword is still facing forward and you're jumping backwards; this will extend the hit range and make it more difficult for other melee to approach you directly.

Floor Hopping

  •  This is performed with a platform you can drop from easily reached from below. Performing this simply means attacking as you're jumping up and attacking when you're dropping down and repeat the process. Like the jump attack, this makes it difficult to approach you without getting hurt and will stop all melee attackers on their tracks
  • Advanced Technique - Same idea, except your switch directions between the attacks, such as attacking left when going up and attacking right when going down.

V-Step (Elesis Swordsman / Character MUST have Strong Air Control and Air Dash)

  •   True Button Combination - Forward, Forward, Up, Forward, Forward, Down
  •   Simple Button Combination - Rapidly press Forward, Up, and Down as fast as possible (NOTE: Cheaper Keyboards will only be able to perform V-Step to the right, simply because the left command doesn't register very well with the other two keys).
  • This move is mostly used to flee against grapples and other specials that you see slightly beforehand, this will make you dash really quickly across the screen (much faster than running).
  • Advanced Technique - An offensive version of this skill is called Shadow Step.
  • Good Arrow Defense.

Mushidon/Rocket (All characters that can Air Dash)

  •   True Button Combination - Forward, Forward, Up, Forward, Forward
  •   Simple Button Combination - Rapidly press Forward and Up as fast as possible.
  • This move basically propels the character forwards and upwards extremely quickly, making for both a quick escape and a technique you can use to get behind your opponents to dodge a few different skills.
  • Advanced Technique - Propelling away then propelling backwards towards where you came with an attack makes for a good unexpected counter attack.
  • Best Arrow Defense

Skill Chain

  • Linking a skill with another before the first can finish, this makes it so it becomes unpredictable to know when to grapple you after a skill.
  • Linking a skill with another, with the later having a short recovery makes it so you can throw the opponent before they can throw you.
  • Advanced Technique - Making a skill chain that connects with one another that will kill the opponent if directly hit.

Safety Skill

  • This is basically launching your pet attack when you know you will be most vulnerable to an attack, this will make it so that they cannot throw you after a skill is performed.
  • Advanced Technique - If a person is directly behind, pet attack so that they will flinch the instant the skill time freeze is over, allowing you to grapple if your skill misses.

Grapple Contest Ender

  • Throwing a pet attack in the middle of a throwing contest will flinch the opponent, making it much easier to win the Grapple Contest.
  • Advanced Technique - If you know your pet attack is going to flinch the opponent, pre-charge your skill on the throw, have opponent flinched, and launch a deadly skill or skill chain to finish off your opponent.

So basically, drop down and immediately attack, then when jumping back up to the platform, attack as you're about to actually land on the platform to cancel the remainder of the animation? Isn't that the same theory behind melee ottoshot?

very good guide lots of things ive seen before some very anoying to fight against

few things u may add

using the pet to attack in grapple contest is often used but if u use it just after they use there pet then u recover and get to grapple them and its switched around although very hard to time this

shadow step is air dash just dont want a load of lower lvls saying im wrong when i say that and start to call me a noob

pets with people that constantly use jump attack or jump attack yourself so that your above the other person also works

this guide will make more pvp matches more interesting however
