Introduction

Welcome to my guide, "All about quests."  Yes, I know, it's long, but I put in some stuff to hopefully make it easier to navigate and understand.  I don't usually make written guides because I am completely NOT gifted with the ability to "sum things up."  I decided to cover a basic aspect of the game that many players are left to figure out by themselves, because I recall having trouble with it myself back when I first started.  It's just one less thing a newbie has to worry about, because we all know what happens when someone asks a simple question such as "how do I get (insert job/character/event item)?"  As such, the aim of this guide is to provide any who read it with a full understanding of how the quest system works in Grand Chase.  Anyway, let's get to it, shall we?

What are quests?

Quests are part of the game designed to reward players for completing certain objectives.  The rewards vary from money to experience points to items, which can sometimes be as common as a potion, or sometimes as rare as quest-exclusive weapons.

Quests have various requirements, such as killing a certain number of enemies or collecting a certain number of items.

When you collect the item or kill the enemy in-game, you will see a notification in the chatbox such as this one:

The quest button

The first thing to know about quests is how to view the ones you already have.
From any screen outside of battle, you can access your quest (or "mission") menu.  It's the scroll button in the top right of the interface.  Clicking it will open a drop-down style menu from which you can view all of the current registered quests.  It will have a blinking exclamation point on top of it if there are newly completed or received quests.

Clicking on any quest will bring up additional information on it.  Also, something many people seem not to know is that if you click on the requirements of a quest, you will be given more specific information - as shown in this screenshot:

Pressing escape or clicking any one of the numerous "close" [x] buttons around the quest windows will close the menu.

Types of quests

There are different types of quests; they can be broken down into 4 main categories.

  1. Dropped quests,
  2. Bought quests,
  3. Level up quests,
  4. Event quests.

Finding quest scrolls

Dropped quests are found in dungeons as common drops from slain enemies.  These are low-reward quests with little or no GP / EXP gain, but they do supply potions as a reward.  You can find them in almost all dungeons, with Xenia Border and Temple of Cuatal being the exceptions.

Buying quest scrolls

Bought quest scrolls tend to be expensive.  These scrolls will contain either job advancement quests or new character quests.
To buy a quest scroll, first click the shop button at the top of the screen and go to the "Academy" tab.  Your first reaction is probably to notice the huge amount of completely random clutter.  Your second reaction will probably be, "why is everything cash?"  Fret not, because Grand Chase has an organization feature - granted, it's not very in depth, but it helps.  Click the "Money type" dropdown box on the top of the list and choose your currency.  For this example we'll use GP.

The resulting list is much, much more manageable.  Now, you can see the available quests; in this case, Ronan's character mission, Lass's character mission, Elesis's 2nd job Spearman mission, and Elesis's 3rd job Swordsman mission.  You can hover over the scrolls just as if they were in your inventory to examine them.

Also, if you click on the scroll's icon, you can see more information on the quest.

Once you've made sure you want the scroll and that you have enough GP, click "Buy."  You still have to register the quest to start it.  More on that later.

Level up quests

Level quests are given automatically when you level up.  Note that some quests are sequential, meaning that you won't get the next quest no matter how many times you level up until you complete the one before it.  Level quests generally give a very nice amount of EXP as well as limited use items, such as cash equipment that only lasts for a few days.  However some rewards are permanent, such as the level 35~ Holy Rune books.  Level quests also give potions from time to time.

When you level up or complete the previous quest, the dialog for your new level up quest will appear.  As another reminder, if you have a new level quest, or any quest for that matter, your quest log will have a blinking exclamation point over it until you examine the quest.

Event quests

The last type of quests are given only during events.  These scrolls have unique graphics and are received upon logging in during the event.  They cannot be bought or regained, so make sure you don't delete them unless you absolutely don't want them anymore.

Event quests contain anything from free timed cash items to special equipment that you can't find anywhere else.  They can be completed at any time, meaning if you want to save your rewards for later, you don't have to worry about it disappearing.  A lot of players do this so that they can have strong equipment in time for events such as the official Grand Chase tournaments.  Event quests must be registered just like any other quest scroll.

Here are some examples of event quest scrolls:

Registering quest scrolls (part 1)

So now that you've picked up a few scrolls and maybe bought one or two, it's time to register them in your quest log so you can actually do them.  The first step is to go to your inventory and find the scroll(s).  Sadly, there is no sorting option for scrolls in the inventory, so you'll just have to dig through it.

Once you've found your scroll, you can click on the icon to view more information about it before accepting it.  This is helpful in making sure you have the right mission before you start it.

So now, the only thing left to do is to click the [OK] button!  So go ahead and give it a click~

Oops.  When this message pops up, it means just what it says.  You can only have 5 quests at a time.  You will still receive level up quests normally if you have more than 5, but you can not manually register any scrolls.  So, you have two options.  Here's option one:

Completing quests

When you finish a quest, a dialog will automatically pop up after the dungeon or PvP battle is over.  However, if you choose to wait and accept the quest later, you have to find it yourself to clear it from your log and receive your rewards.  The first step is to click on your quest log button in the upper right corner and find the quest; the character it falls under should have a number higher than zero in the quest count next to their name, and the quest itself should be marked "OK" in the list.

Click on the quest.  Generally, all you have to do from there is click "Mission Complete" on the bottom.  However, some quests require you to choose a reward first - usually you only have to choose between potions.  You can hover over the items in question to view their information.  Click on the desired reward when you've made your decision - it should highlight - then click "Mission Complete."  Afterwards, the resulting confirmation screen should appear.  Once you click [OK] the items will be delivered to your inventory.

Deleting quests

The other way to remove a quest from your list is to simply delete it.  Generally, you only want to delete quests with rewards you don't care about, such as low exp, potions, or something you already have.  To delete a quest, find it in the list and click the X next to its name.  A dialog will appear asking for confirmation.  Pressing escape or clicking No will cancel the action, while pressing enter or clicking Yes will confirm it.

After confirmation, your quest list should have more room.

Registering quest scrolls (part 2)

Okay!  Now that we have some room, let's try this again.  Navigate through your inventory and find the scroll.  Click the [OK] button and....

Success!  Yay~  Now, the "New!" icon should be blinking over your quest menu wherever the new quest is shown, as well as on the little scroll button.

I know, it's annoying, so once you view the quest and close the menu it will go away.

Deleting quest scrolls

This process is very simple.  Just find the quest in your inventory and click [Sell].  A confirmation window will appear.  Enter/Yes sells the scroll, Escape/No cancels.

Note that while the button is labeled "sell," you won't actually receive money for the quest scrolls.  The function is only available to get them out of your inventory without having to do them.

Also, once a quest is sold/deleted, you can't get it back.  So don't delete any event quest scrolls you may want to use some day.

Miscellaneous useful quest information
  • All rewards from quests can be redeemed whenever the player wants; they will never expire.
  • If you over stock on quest items, such as mushroom hats for the Trial Forest dropped quests, you don't actually need to do the quest again to get the rewards.
  • Quests that require certain normal items can be completed on other characters.  For example, one of the quests at Kerrie Beach requires you to get a Harpy Queen's Chaos Orb.  It doesn't matter which character gets it.
  • For quests that require you to kill a certain number of enemies, it doesn't matter who actually kills the enemy in the game - just as long as you're in the room.
  • Some quests require that you complete them on a certain difficulty.  As long as you choose the same or higher difficulty, the requirements will still be met.  Example; a quest for 1-star difficulty can be completed on 3-star difficulty.  However, a quest that requires 3-star difficulty cannot be completed on 2 or 1-star difficulty.
  • The required level for some quest scrolls aren't exactly the recommended level.  For example, trying to get Ronan by yourself at level 15 will likely result in disaster.
  • Contrary to popular belief, more people in the room does NOT mean less chance to get quest drops.  Gaikoz Seals, Fire Golem Elements, Goblin Peaked hats - all quest items are given either 100% of the time or completely at RANDOM based on each individual player.
  • Some quests require you to go out of your way to complete them.  For example, the Fire Golem's Marrow quest will give you elements up until the last 3 or 4 are left.  To get those last few, you have to go off to extra rooms in the Temple of Fire (such as the top path above the boss room) instead of just going along the main path.
  • There are currently no level 47 and above level quests.

Someone wants a sticky ~

xD Nice job. Very very detailed. Only problem I have with it is you chose a simple topic. =x Not many people ask about quests. If you listed down the quests then that'd probably be awesome. :P

Still great work Zhon. <3

Actually a lot of people I help in-game ask me about quests, or seem to outright have no understanding of them.  Yeah, I know it's a simple topic, and I don't really expect a sticky since it is so simple, but it's just something people can reference if anyone ever asks about quests or newbie guides, or something.

Anyway, thanks ^~^

Hmm...

It actually has a useful question, so I'll just answer it.

As far as I know: the square is used to mark quests.  Nothing more, nothing less.  I marked all the quests I wanted to do for the items in the tournament.  Think of it like a post-it note ^^

It's to show whether  you completed the quest or not. Completed quests result in that box being replaced with an "OK" sign.

Fixed.

Epic fixed.

This guide is in need of an update since a few additions were made to the item/quest system right after it was written.  Now that I've been reminded with a necro I'll probably get to it some time this week >.>
